    Under Attack

In prison, tempted to deny his faith

But he cried out to God . . .

In a Muslim-dominated country a national Bible translator, I’ll call Jerry, was arrested for his Christian faith and thrown into prison. But the jailers offered him a deal . . .

If he agreed to be a government spy—leaking information about Christians; where they met, who their leaders were—he would be free to go.

In complete agony, his faith being tested, he prayed, “Lord, help me! I can’t handle it anymore!”

That’s when he remembered what Jesus said to Simon Peter just before the crucifixion—knowing Simon would be tempted to deny Him. He said, “I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail” (Luke 22:32 NIV).

It was God’s Word, hidden in Jerry’s heart, that made the difference! What happened next was a miracle . . .

The threats went away. And Jerry had never denied his Lord. A new interrogator was assigned to Jerry—no more bullying, no more ultimatums. And after eight long months he was released.

Jerry had prayed, “Lord, help me! I can’t handle it anymore!” That’s when he remembered what Jesus said to Simon Peter just before the crucifixion—knowing Simon would be tempted to deny Him. He said, “I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail” (Luke 22:32 NIV). It was God’s Word, hidden in Jerry’s heart, that kept Him from denying Christ!

More than 70 believers like Jerry have been imprisoned in this country, but their fellow believers are pressing on to translate God’s Word.

These courageous translators are ready to risk their lives—just like Jerry did—so that when their Christian brothers and sisters face persecution or imprisonment, they have the Bible to give them strength through their trials. And they need our help!

Time is of the essence. Bible translation efforts in these dangerous areas are constantly at risk. We must act now while the window of opportunity is open!

It takes just $19,500 to launch a new translation project. That means thousands, maybe millions, of souls can receive the light of the gospel—for the very first time.

And right now we have the opportunity to start 30 of these new translations!

Christians are routinely captured, enslaved, tortured, and even killed. But with God’s Word in their language they can hold onto their faith—despite the dangerous trials they face.

Your support will mean so much. Please, give whatever you can today.

    Thank you—and God bless you.
